A donation of vintage clothing... and family history

A collection of simply amazing vintage garments were donated to the Angels by Margie Swanson of Chariton, Iowa.  The collection is truly incredible and I am sure that these heirlooms were difficult to let go.

Margie shared that the items may be from as early as the 1920s and may be more valuable if sold, with the benefits to be used to further fund Angelgownsbyjacki. 

After much ohhing and ahhhing over these bits of history, some thoughtful consideration, and just a little research, we agree.

After our initial research, we believe that the collection includes wedding dresses (including shoes and silk stockings), tea dresses, christening gowns, and children's coats and clothing.  Obviously, the collection follows her family's history through generations!

Below is a just a taste of the incredible collection: a middy blouse and skirt ensemble.  I believe the blouse is of linen lawn but the skirt is of a slightly heavier fabric. 

There were indications that the ensemble had previously been displayed.  I was not surprised as it is gorgeous!

As part of the disbursement of these very special vintage items, the decision was made to donate this particular ensemble to the Grimes Heritage Museum, which is housed within the Grimes Community Center.  The Grimes Community Center has been so very gracious in the last many months to share their staff, their time, and their space by accepting and temporarily storing donations and allowing us to use their rooms for processing.

We look forward to seeing the garment displayed in the Museum and enjoyed by Grimes and surrounding communities for years to come.

While we consider our options and how to go about getting the remaining garments evaluated and sold, photos of the items will be shared over the next month or so.   Should you have an interest in any of the items, please let us know.  Once we determine a value, the items will be offered to you, followers of our blog, first.
